Women's Health Acupuncture
Acupuncture tailored to the rhythms and needs of women's bodies — from fertility and pregnancy through to perimenopause, stress, digestive health and beyond.
Women's bodies move through distinct seasons — each one bringing its own demands, its own complexity, its own relationship with the hormonal and nervous systems. What works in your twenties doesn't necessarily work in your forties. What felt manageable before children can feel entirely different after.
Women's health acupuncture approaches the body as a whole — not as a collection of symptoms to be managed, but as an interconnected system that responds to the quality of its internal environment. Using the lens of Chinese medicine, we look at what is underlying the presenting concern: what patterns of excess or deficiency, heat or cold, stagnation or depletion are contributing to what you're experiencing. And then we work with those patterns — gently, consistently, over time.
At HERA, women's health acupuncture is offered alongside our facial and skin treatments because we understand that these things are not separate. Your skin often reflects what is happening internally. Your cycle affects your energy. Your stress levels affect your digestion and your sleep. Everything is connected, and the treatment reflects that.
Women’s Health Acupuncture
Initial 60 mins | $149
Your first session includes a full Chinese medicine intake — your health history, cycle, lifestyle, stress, sleep and digestion all inform the treatment. From there, a treatment protocol is established and your first full session begins. Acupuncture, with additional modalities as appropriate.
Follow up 40 mins | $120
A focused maintenance session for clients who are established in their treatment rhythm.
Extended follow up 60 mins | $149
A longer follow-up for clients whose treatment requires more time — for complex presentations, or when additional modalities are needed within the session.
What’s involved
Each session begins with a brief check-in before needles are placed at carefully selected points on the body. Additional modalities may include moxibustion, cupping, electroacupuncture, Gua Sha, ear seeds or Tui Na — chosen based on your presentation that day. If you have a phobia of needles, please let us know — we can work primarily with non-needle techniques.
Your session closes with organic herbal tea and, where appropriate, personalised dietary and lifestyle recommendations based on Chinese medicine principles.
A comprehensive intake form is sent when you book your initial appointment. Please complete it before arriving — it allows us to spend more time on the treatment bed and less time on paperwork.
FAQ’s
How can acupuncture help with menstrual concerns?
Irregular cycles, painful periods, heavy bleeding, PMS, endometriosis — these are some of the most common presentations we see. Chinese medicine has a detailed understanding of the menstrual cycle and the patterns that disrupt it. Treatment is aimed at addressing the root rather than just managing the symptom, which is why results tend to improve progressively over several cycles rather than appearing immediately.
Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes — when performed by a qualified practitioner, acupuncture is considered safe throughout pregnancy. It can be helpful for nausea, back and pelvic pain, fatigue, anxiety, breech presentation, and preparation for labour. Please let us know your stage of pregnancy when booking so we can ensure the treatment is appropriate.
Can acupuncture support fertility?
Acupuncture can support fertility by regulating the menstrual cycle, improving the quality of the hormonal environment, supporting egg quality, and reducing stress — all of which contribute to conditions that support conception. It works best as part of a broader approach to preconception health rather than as a standalone intervention.
What about menopause?
Hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, insomnia, brain fog — these are all within the scope of women's health acupuncture. Treatment works by supporting the body's transition rather than suppressing its symptoms, which means results build gradually and tend to be sustainable.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on what you're treating and how long you've been experiencing it. Acute presentations may resolve in a few sessions. Longstanding hormonal or cycle concerns typically require a course of eight to ten sessions, with weekly or fortnightly appointments in the initial phase. Your practitioner will give you a clearer sense of what to expect at your initial appointment.
What if I'm nervous about needles?
Acupuncture needles are nothing like injections — they are hair-fine and most people feel little to nothing when they are inserted. That said, if you have significant anxiety around needles, please mention it when booking. We can work with this, adjust the approach, or focus on other techniques entirely.
What are the risks?
Minor bruising, slight soreness or a small amount of bleeding at needle sites can occasionally occur. These are temporary and typically resolve within a day. Serious adverse effects are extremely rare in the hands of a qualified practitioner.
Who this treatment suits?

Our areas of particular interest include preconception care and fertility, pregnancy support, postpartum recovery, menstrual complaints, menopause and perimenopause, stress and anxiety, digestive health, hormonal imbalances and sleep concerns.
