Skin Needling

Medical microneedling that works with your skin's own intelligence — stimulating collagen, renewing texture and rebuilding resilience from within.

Skin needling — also known as microneedling or collagen induction therapy, is one of the most evidence-backed skin treatments available. It works by creating precise, controlled microchannels in the skin that trigger the body's natural wound-healing response, stimulating the production of new collagen, elastin and growth factors in the deeper layers.

At HERA we use the EXCEED medical microneedling device — a clinically validated system that delivers consistent, controlled needle depth for results that go beyond what cosmetic-grade devices can achieve. The difference matters. Medical microneedling creates real stimulus. The skin responds accordingly.

Autumn and winter are the ideal time to begin a needling course. Lower UV exposure means faster healing, less post-treatment sensitivity and better long-term results. A course started now means your skin is rebuilding through the cooler months — and genuinely transformed by spring.

How skin needling works

Using very fine needles that penetrate the surface of the skin vertically, EXCEED creates microchannels without significantly disrupting the epidermal structure. This controlled stimulus triggers the skin's fibroblasts to produce new collagen — the same process the body uses to heal — resulting in skin that becomes genuinely denser, firmer and more resilient over time.

Unlike ablative treatments that remove surface layers, or injectables that fill without rebuilding, microneedling generates structural change from within. The skin isn't being masked or temporarily plumped — it is actually regenerating.

Results build progressively over a series of treatments as collagen production peaks four to six weeks after each session. This is why a course of four to six treatments, rather than a single session, produces the most meaningful and lasting change.

Enhance your treatment

For clients wanting to go deeper, the SomaCeutical Enzyme Enhancement can be added to any skin needling session. The professional-grade enzyme mask is applied pre-needling and left to work for 15–20 minutes, preparing and refining the skin surface to support deeper penetration and a more responsive treatment.

What to know

Before your appointment

When you book, you'll receive a short questionnaire to determine your suitability for treatment. Please complete it honestly — there are contraindications to skin needling and your safety is the priority. We'll also ask about your current skincare so we can confirm your skin is in the right condition to be treated. If it isn't, we'll tell you what to change before we proceed.

After your treatment

Expect 24–72 hours of redness depending on your skin's sensitivity. You won't be able to apply SPF immediately after treatment and should stay out of direct sun for the rest of the day — plan accordingly. On days three to five, dryness, flakiness and light peeling are normal and part of the process. An Enzymes + LED session during this window is highly recommended to support recovery and reduce downtime.

Diet and preparation

In the days leading up to and following your treatment, a diet rich in protein, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates and fibre supports optimal healing. Avoid heavily processed, refined or inflammatory foods around your treatment — they slow the collagen-building process you're trying to stimulate.

Treatment frequency

Frequency depends on what we're treating. For general skin renewal and maintenance, sessions spaced four to six weeks apart allow the skin to heal fully and collagen production to peak before the next treatment. For deeper concerns — active scarring, significant texture changes or more advanced ageing — we space sessions six to eight weeks apart, giving the tissue adequate time to rebuild between treatments. A minimum course of four to six treatments is recommended for meaningful, lasting results.

Who it's ideal for

Skin rejuvenation and preventative ageing — acne scarring — fine lines and wrinkles — pigmentation and sun damage — enlarged pores — scar revision — stretch marks — uneven texture and tone.

Contraindications

Skin needling is not suitable for everyone. Active acne, open wounds, certain skin conditions, pregnancy, blood thinners and some medications are contraindications. Your intake form covers these — if you're unsure, reach out before booking.

Why now is the right time for skin needling

Skin needling works best when your skin can heal without UV interference. The autumn and winter months — April through August — offer the ideal conditions: reduced sun exposure, cooler temperatures and less chance of post-treatment pigmentation. If you've been thinking about skin needling, starting your course now means your skin spends the colder months quietly rebuilding — and you arrive at spring genuinely transformed.

Collagen production peaks four to six weeks after each session. Begin a four-session course in April and by October your skin will reflect that investment.
